Message from Sandall Park Junior Rangers

11 June 2021

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this email to ask you and your school for some help. Here at Friends of Sandall Park (FOSP), we are all about getting people involved in what goes on around their park and making them aware of all the work which is done to help keep it amazing. I am the Head Junior Ranger and I am making it my mission to educate children and young people about the importance of our green spaces and I wish to make them more aware of the world they live in. The Junior Rangers have been running for a few years now but because of COVID, we haven’t been able to hold the events we normally would. We are going to take the opportunity this break in events has given us to relaunch and try to get more young people involved down at the park. As part of this ‘relaunch’, I was really hoping that you would be willing to work more closely with us and help to get your pupils involved.

I believe that being involved with a group of volunteers like Friends of Sandall Park and the Junior Rangers will provide your pupils with experiences which are key to development such as teamwork, conservation, responsibility and communication. They will also gain a sense of pride and achievement when they see the work they have done, whether it be flowers they have planted or bird boxes they have painted, being used and appreciated by everyone. I first became involved with FOSP when I was at primary school and it has inspired me to care more about my local area and my park. It has been a key part of my life for many years now and I would love for more children to enjoy it as much as I have.

One of the ways I was hoping you will be able to help me is by promoting our events to your families to let them know what is going on down at the park. The sort of events which have been held in the past are: tree and flower planting, bike painting for the Tour de Yorkshire, litter picks, the annual easter egg hunt and many more.

We also have a Junior Rangers board down at the park near the Caring Hands Memorial which I am hoping to fill with artwork and writing done by our Junior Rangers. To help me do this, I would like to hold a competition among local schools to create posters for our board. I am hoping that you will be willing to get involved in this as it is an opportunity for your pupils to get creative in and out of school.

If you would like to get involved in the competition and the events, please let me know and I will send you through the details as soon as possible. Thank you for reading this, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours Faithfully,
Emma Pickering
(Head Junior Ranger)
